I uninstalled ALL Windows Media Hotfixes from add/remove. There were only two showing up on my add/remove panel anyway. I didn't uninstall the Windows XP Hotfixes. Make sure you don't either. Can't you just delete those folders after the uninstall if you don't want them? You can easily access and save these folders from Windows Explorer. I installed it by using Control Panel > Add/Remove > Add/Remove Windows Componenets and uninstalled the Windows XP fax software the same way.
